Emotive is an Emotional Engagement platform. Mass marketing engagement has been dragged down by opens, clicks and views, giving the marketer very little data to personalize the purchasing experience around each consumers' specific needs. Emotive powers online brands to scale expert sales associates through mobile messaging to every single customer. We are currently working with over 180+ eCommerce businesses today and are growing about 10-20% each month. We are a 16 person startup and looking to grow to over to over 25 in the next 6 months. About the Head of Engineering position

We are currently searching for our Head of Engineering to manage our growing software team. This is a senior management role that is in charge of all major technical decisions that drive both customer innovation and overall platform reliability/scalability. The ideal candidate has at least 8 years of software experience in the SaaS industry. This person will also have previously managed high functioning software teams in fast growth startup environments. As the engineering lead, the candidate is expected to manage developers efficiently through the software development lifecycle. It is also important for the candidate to have solid product understanding and can work closely with product teams and add a technical layer to the overall product roadmap. This person has a strong ability to manage both business and technical needs and can prioritize between technical debt and new product development. Aside from our mission of making marketing more emotionally driven, our head of engineering should be the reason why our engineers love coming to work every day. This person should be able to put their own self aside in order to create cohesion between the rest of our team.


  • Organize full lifecycle software development
  • Write well documented Scope of work for other engineers
  • Come up with procedures and frameworks to avoid technical debt
  • Create efficient architectural and database design
  • Evaluate and deploy software tools, processes and metrics
  • Communicate priorities with engineers and product team alike
  • Help other engineers excel in their job and in their careers
  • Create amazing things that scale!

Requirements are:

  • 8+ years' experience of web application development and leading engineering teams
  • Significant experience using at least one popular scripted language, such as Python, Node, Javascript, PHP, etc.
  • Excellent knowledge of Relational Databases, SQL and ORM technologies (JPA2, Hibernate)
  • Have lots of experience on the deployment side, and have worked with AWS
  • Some experience in working with Frontend technologies such as Angular, React. (this is not as important to this role)
  • HUGE PLUS: any experience with messaging Queues and task managers such as RabbitMQ, Redis, or Celery/Kafka
  • Close familiarity with software engineering tools, software development methodology and release processes
